Last night I made these yummy homemade mozzarella sticks for the Super Bowl. They were extremely easy to make and came out great! Since mozzarella is such a mild cheese, they may be kind of bland for some, but you can try kicking it up a notch with different cheese sticks, sauces, and spices! Prepare them ahead of time and then just bake (or fry) when you would like to serve 🙂
Egg Roll Mozzarella Sticks
- Your favorite string cheese
- Egg roll wrappers
- Garlic salt
- Italian seasoning
- Cooking spray
- Olive oil
- Sauce for dipping (we used Grammy Jo’s Friday Sauce)
These are so easy to make! First just unwrap your string cheese and lay out an egg roll wrapper so it looks like a diamond in front of you. Place the cheese in the middle so the seasoning stays in the wrapper. Season with garlic salt and Italian seasoning (or whatever spices you would like to use).
Move the cheese towards the bottom corner and begin wrapping by folding the bottom corner over the cheese.
Roll up to the center then tuck in the corners.
Continue rolling until you have completely wrapped the cheese.
Flash freeze the mozzarella sticks by freezing for 1 hour on a cookie sheet. Once frozen they can be placed in a storage container or even freezer bag and placed back in the freezer.
Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. Place mozzarella sticks on sheet and brush top with olive oil. Bake in 400 oven for 18 minutes turning over halfway through. Serve with dipping sauce.
* The mozzarella sticks can also be deep fried at 350 for a few minutes. They fry very fast so be careful not to burn them. Check after 2 minutes and continue cooking if necessary.
I’m always looking for ways to save time but still, somehow, get everything that I would like to accomplished. As far as meals for our family, one thing that really helps is planning out our meals and sometimes using the techniques of batch cooking or freezer cooking. I thought it would be fun to create a Make Ahead Monday feature to share recipes and ideas.
