When you set goals and then break them down into actionable steps using the free goal setting worksheets included, you’ll take back your life in no time!
I remember moving into our home almost 11 years ago now and saying to my husband, “Do you think we’ll ever be able to fill this house?” It’s by no means a huge house, but when it was the two of us just starting out we just didn’t have that much “stuff.”
Fast forward to today, three kids later, and just about every closet is ready to explode!
Things are unorganized, time is mismanaged, the finances need work after some hardships, and I feel like I am just surviving each day.
Another Christmas has come and gone and while there are many happy moments I’ll always remember from it, I still feel that the season was more of a rush than thoroughly enjoyed.
I’ve had it!
I have reached my breaking point and NEED to take back my life now from the world of chaos it’s fallen into. So starting today, my resolution is to do things on purpose.
I want to work toward goals not fly by the seat of my pants. I want to eat healthy meals on time, not have the panicked “what’s for dinner” discussion with my husband when we should already be eating. And most importantly, I want to enjoy time with my family without always thinking about how behind I am on projects, deadlines, and chores.
Everything has a time and place and when that time and place is…that’s just what I’ll be figuring out for my life.
So here we go! Are you ready?!
Set goals clearly for each category of your life
The first thing we’ll need to do is figure out exactly what our goals are.
Without goals things can be overwhelming and there just seems to be no place to start. Once we have a clear understanding of exactly what our goals are, then we can create schedules to make sure that we have time to get what needs to be done accomplished.
<< Goals Overview Printable >>
To get started, I’ve created a free printable to help you figure out just what your overall goals are. I’ve added what I think are pretty general categories for all of us – family, finances, health, home, and career. In each section you’ll find room for three goals, a due date to work towards for each goal, and a check box for you to come back to once you complete all broken down steps of it (more on the goal breakdown below). I’ve also left two blank sections at the bottom in case you have other areas of your life that you would like to set goals for.
Break down each goal into actionable steps…
Then for a more detailed look at exactly what we need to do to reach each goal, I’ve also created printables that allow you to break them down into steps to help you accomplish them.
<< Goal Breakdown Printables –> Family, Finances, Health, Home, Career, Blank >>
By breaking down each goal into manageable steps, you’ll be able to easily visualize what it takes to be successful. It’s much easier to then schedule small action steps into your daily life, instead of having an overall goal floating around the back of your mind without a plan to achieve it.
For example, if one of your “Home” goals is to remodel the playroom your steps might be…
- Look through Pinterest, magazines, and other sources for inspiration and decide on how you would like the room to look
- Calculate your budget and be creative if necessary to get the look you desire while saving
- Go through old toys and decide what you are keeping, donating, selling, and tossing and see what type of storage would work best for the toys your are keeping
- Clean, paint, construct, etc
- Finishing touches and ENJOY!
So get those goals down on paper and let’s start working through them!
Which goal is most important for you? Which one will help your family the most?
~*~*~*~
I am not a professional organizer, life coach, or self-help expert. I am a mom, wife, and small business owner with way too many things to do and not nearly enough time to do them…which leaves me frazzled all the time and with little time to do what I actually WANT to do. Well that is going to end. Everyone makes New Year’s resolutions and this year mine isn’t going to be a simple task. I don’t want to change one thing, I want to change many to give me the one thing I want back the most – MY life!
If your life has somehow become so busy and complicated that you no longer recognize it, or if you just have to figure out a way to get what needs to be accomplished done in order to spend more time with your loved ones, then I hope you’ll join me on this adventure. We’ll be talking goals, schedules, organizing, budgeting, saving, and anything else we need to get ourselves back on track!
