Since I came across the idea of painting a rug a couple of months ago I’ve been dying to give it a try! I’ve seen quite a few of them and they really do turn out fabulous. I didn’t really have anywhere that needed a rug in my house though so I kind of put the idea on the back burner. Until now that is…I’m going to make a painted outdoor rug!
I’ve been watching for a good deal on an outdoor rug for our deck. So far the best deal I’ve found for one that I liked was about $69 at Sam’s Club. Don’t get me wrong…that’s a good price, but when you can have a custom one for around $25 that’s even better! I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this until I came across a pin about a DIY outdoor rug last week, but the perfect rug to paint is an outdoor one. So that’s just what I am going to do!
There are fabulous deals on outdoor rugs at Home Depot. You can get a 6′ x 8 ‘ outdoor rug for as little as $17.87! Just choose to pick it up in your local store and shipping is FREE too! These rugs make the perfect blank canvas to let your creativity go wild or they are wonderful alone if you are just looking for a simple outdoor rug. And you can grab a sample size can of paint (8 oz.) for less than $3, which I think you’ll have to get in store for the best color selection. If you plan on just accenting the rug with a border or simple design, that’s probably all the paint you’ll need. I’m thinking I’ll go with an exterior paint since it will be an exterior rug 😉
I can’t wait to get started on this project! Has anyone else ever made a painted outdoor rug? How did it turn out?
I’d love to see some photos…feel free to share them with me on Instagram at @savingbydesign. I’ll be sure to check back in with an update on how mine turned out 😀
