Well, we got it good! Winter Storm Pax packed quite the punch here in Northeast PA and it looks like today is going to be another day of digging out. I’m so thankful to have my husband who does most of that work and my dad (Pop Pop Truck) who loads up the snow blower in his pickup truck and comes over to snow blow us out since ours is broken right now. Sure the work is never fun, and snow does cause many problems with traveling and power outages, but there are many who might not ever see snow. Or kids who don’t know anything about the work or troubles and just can’t wait to get out there and go sledding, make snowmen, and have snowball fights.
So many times, and believe me there have been many times this winter so far, my hubby took the kids out in the snow to play and I stayed inside and tried to get some work done. Yesterday I decided I was going to choose the snow day over work and it was truly the best thing I’ve done in a long time!
I know they’re still munchkins, but my kids are already growing up! While 6 and almost 4 seem so young, how many years are there really left that my 6-year-old son will be so excited to go out and play in the snow with Mommy?
I’m so lucky to have my mom live next door and yesterday she decided to put the work on hold too and come out and “play” after we got done shoveling. She has the perfect little hill over her house so it was a snow day at Grammy’s!
Pop Pop Truck and the hubs used the snow blower to make a huge pile of snow that they turned into an igloo…
Grammy was sledding down the hill…
The kids were just enjoying everyone outside, having fun, and all being together…
And we even had some hot chocolate 🙂
Unfortunately for health reasons my step-dad wasn’t able to be outside with us, but he was right there at the window, watching all of the adults magically transform into kids again because of our snow day. For those few hours all the worries went away…the bills, the stress, the work…we were all kids yesterday just living life and it was fun!
No matter what is going on in your life you really need to stop and live in the moment once in a while. It’s those moments that make life worth living and when they’re gone, you can’t get them back. Look at all the photos I’m sharing with you today…if I stayed in and worked I wouldn’t have any of those now precious memories. Probably the best thing about yesterday was this morning when my son said, “Mommy are you going to come out and play in the snow with us again today?” Kids aren’t going to remember us working so hard to pay the bills or the never-ending cleaning to try to keep the house clean. They are going to remember quality time together. They are going to remember snow days.
Oh yeah and one more thing. Yesterday was only half the storm. Last night we got the second half and I’m not sure how much exactly because of all the blowing and drifting, but there is A LOT of fresh snow out there again.
Here are some photos of what’s waiting outside for us today…
Looks like we’ll be having another Snow Day!! 😀
