Well the day has come…both of my babies are now off to school! My little princess’ very first day of pre-K is today and as you may remember I had my son’s Kindergarten breakdown last week. She’ll only be there half days, but nonetheless, it’s her very first day of school. And she was SO excited! Last year she would be with me when we dropped off her brother and just kept asking, “When can I go to school?”
But even with all the planning and excitement, the morning turned into an adventure! As most days around here usually do. See, my son’s bus picks him up at our house a half hour after my daughter has to be at school. Her school is 11 minutes away. Yes, I do have this perfectly timed from our “adventures” while my son was there last year. So I thought I would take my son with me to drop her off and then make it back in time for the bus. I should have 20 minutes to spare right? WRONG!
Dropping my daughter off went well…no tears, no trouble…just see you later Mom! We got back on the road and I had what I thought was 20 minutes to get back home. Well, as we were getting closer I see my son’s bus up ahead picking up kids at the stop before our development. Uh oh! There were about 4 cars between us and the bus and the trouble is, it’s a one-lane highway with no other way to get to our house! So then it turned into a mad dash to try to beat the bus!
The bus turned the corner at the light. With 4 cars in front of me at that now red light I decided to “cut the corner” and go through the gas station. You gotta do what you gotta do! Once in the development I see the bus making it’s first stop so I took another route to our house to try to beat it. I get to the stop sign and whoosh – a yellow school bus blur crossed right in front of us! My son’s yelling, “Oh no! I missed the bus!” But not to worry there are other stops back at the beginning of the development. So I go past our house and head back to the to the road you enter on. At the stop sign – whoosh – the bus blows past us again! At this point I’m laughing out loud and my son is almost crying. I knew it wasn’t THAT big of a deal since I could always just drop him off at the school if I had to. However when I told him that he let out a big “Noooo!” so I knew I had to try my hardest to get him on that bus. I finally got to the last house that gets picked up, left the car at the stop sign still running, got my son out and start sprinting towards the other kids as they were boarding the bus. One of the parents recognized us and told the bus driver that we were coming. Mission accomplished…he made it!
So it looks like my master plan isn’t going to work. I mean yes, today there was a different bus driver and if it was our regular one he would have recognized me at the stop sign near my house. And yes, this bus driver did get to the stops about 5 minutes early. BUT even if the bus was 5 minutes later, it still would have ended up in front of us on that one-lane highway. Phooey!
Oh well, at least I have a backup plan…thanks in advance Mom! 😀
