The following is a guest post by Tina McGovern, a health and prosperity coach, and founder of Breaking Boundaries Consulting.  Enjoy!

We all know it.  We’ve all felt it.  We all probably wish it was non-existent.  STRESS!!  But with how fast-paced our society moves, stress is inevitable.  And, honestly, stress delivers that one-two punch where it impacts both our health and personal relationships.   But is there anything that can be done to rectify this situation? I am here to personally tell you that yes – there is a way!!!  No matter how stressful your life seems, there are steps you can take to regain control.

And I know this first-hand because I used to be that super stressed-out mom who was burning the candle at both ends and not getting anywhere.  But after some searching, I’ve discovered my own “liquid gold” and my stress has reduced dramatically.  Trust me, with 2 kids, it will always be there, but I’ve just learned how to better cope, both mentally and through proper nutrition.

7 simple stress relievers to try…

So what can you do for yourself so you do not fall into the “stress-rut” as I like to call it?  Here are a few strategies that, when put into practice, work really well:

  1. Understand what stress really is. Stress is anything real or perceived that moves us away from our comfortable “middle ground.”  Change, for example,  can be really, really hard and sometimes the stuff we make up in our own heads regarding that change is worse than it really is.  So try and take a deep breath, take some time, and trust the process.
  2. Mind-body connection is a big deal when it comes to overall wellness. Some great techniques to reduce stress include meditation and yoga.
  3. Sometimes stress is related to the state our bodies are in and the increased levels of cortisol. Try herbal drinks that include adaptogens to help the body cope with various stressors.  Also eat more for your well-being rather than a reaction to the stress.
  4. Write about it by having a stress journal. Document what causes you stress, how you deal with it, and the outcome.  By doing this you will have a better understanding of what causes you stress and how avoid those particular situations.
  5. Get moving!!! Dance, run, walk the dog – anything to get you up and moving.
  6. Learn to say “NO.” Don’t take on more than you can handle and don’t feel like you need to save the world all the time.
  7. Get organized. Sometimes our stress is a result of our own doing by not having a schedule to follow. But I’ve found the only way to get out of any rut is to get into action and create systems to help you organize your life.

What to avoid…

Some things to definitely AVOID if you’re feeling stressed:

  • Smoking
  • Drinking too much
  • Using medication to try and rectify the situation
  • Becoming withdrawn
  • Become quick to blame others or act violently
  • Feeling defeated

Bottom line is this.  You may feel like there’s nothing you can do about stress because there will never be more than 24 hours in the day and your responsibilities will always be there.  But, we all have personal choices when it comes to how we deal with stress.  Stress management is all about taking charge – of your lifestyle, of your emotions, of your thoughts, and by the way you react to stress.  Know that no matter how stressful your life seems, there are options and you are not alone!

About Tina

I am a mom of two beautiful, fun-loving children, Evan and Madelaine, an advocate and foster mom for bully breed dogs, and am living life by my own design. I am a health and prosperity coach, showing people the blueprint to better health and greater wealth. We all deserve the best in this world and life is too short to live with "what if's". I hold the mirror up to both organizations and individuals, allow them to dream big again, and show them how to make those dreams a reality. Because sometimes all it takes is another set of eyes or a different way of thinking about things to break through boundaries that are holding you back.
