“Are my kids too young for Disney?” No way!! Here are some helpful tips for your Disney World vacation with baby!
The following is a guest post from Melissa, a travel agent at Mickey Adventures. Enjoy!
As a travel agent specializing in Disney vacations, I’ve had countless questions about anything and everything Disney related. But two of the most common questions from families are “Should I wait until my kids are older?” and “Are my kids too young for Disney?”
I’m happy to say there is no need to wait! Disney has something for everyone and it is truly magical at every age, but even more magical when your kids are little!
Here are some helpful tips for your Disney World vacation with baby…
Kids under 3 are FREE!
That’s right, free! They don’t need a park ticket and they eat free at any buffet location!
Stay on Site
Disney resorts have wonderful perks and are very kid-friendly! Not only can you take advantage of Disney’s free Magical Express from the Orlando airport to your resort, but you can also use Disney’s transportation from your resort to the parks so there’s no need to rent a car if you’re staying on Disney property. Disney has value, moderate and deluxe priced resorts so there’s something for just about any budget. When you stay onsite, it’s so easy to get to the parks early, go back to your resort for an afternoon nap or some pool time, then head back to a park for the evening. Another perk of staying on site is Extra Magic Hours, where every day at least one of the parks will either open early or stay open late for Disney’s resort guests.
Rider Switch
Just because you have a little one who can’t ride Space Mountain, doesn’t mean you (or you and your older kids) can’t ride! Disney has something called a “Rider Switch” and it works like this… your family walks up to the cast member (CM) by the line going into Space Mountain (or any ride with a height requirement). You tell the CM that you’d like a rider switch card and he/she will ask who’s NOT riding. The CM will tell your husband (and kids) to go through the line and they’ll get a “rider switch” card. When they get off, YOU (and your older kids get to ride AGAIN!) will get to ride by going through the FastPass entrance. Your older kids will love it because they get to ride twice!!
And remember, not all Disney rides are intense roller coasters! It’s actually surprising at how much you can do with a baby or toddler! There are so many fun things to see and interact with at Disney 🙂
You’ll Find a Baby Care Center in Each Park
Disney’s baby care centers are quiet and air conditioned. They have baby related items for sale (food, diapers, formula, wipes, lotions, Pedialite, OTC medications, etc) a food prep area with a microwave, ice and sink, wooden rockers, high chairs, a bathroom, and private nursing rooms with outlets for breast pumps. There’s also a little lounge area with a TV showing Disney movies for older siblings. And, most importantly, it is clean…very, very clean! The baby care centers get wonderful reviews from moms.
Disney is So Stroller-Friendly
It’s easy to manage a stroller in the parks and at your resort. And of course, they’re so convenient to have for naps. You can certainly bring your own stroller, or you can rent one from Disney or several stroller rental companies that will deliver the stroller right to your resort.
First Haircut!
Your baby can get his or her first haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop in the Magic Kingdom… how cool is that?? It even comes with their first pair of Ears 🙂
So, as you can see, there’s no right or wrong age for a child to visit this magical place!

About Melissa
Planning your Disney vacation is just as fun as planning my own… it really is!! My husband and I have 3 kids… Lauren is a freshman, Kyle’s in 6th grade and Hailey’s in 5th (yes, high school, middle school and elementary!!) They’ve been to Disney 12 times—some short trips, some long— and we still have yet to do everything! 🙂 We’ve stayed in most of the Disney resorts, tried the vast majority of restaurants and dinner shows & have done lots of the not-so-common experiences. I’ve been a Disney travel agent for 4 years and have been with Mickey Adventures for over 3! I’ve helped plan Disney vacations and Disney cruises for over 200 families! It costs nothing more to book your vacation with me & Mickey Adventures than it is to book directly with Disney, but I can help you with all the other stuff that goes along with a Disney vacation!
