There are some everyday habits of frugal people that you can learn so you don’t even realize you are saving. Here are just a few of them.
I love not only saving money, but saving money without sacrificing. By that I mean you don’t have to feel like you are missing out on life just because you would like to live more frugally. In fact, I believe you can create a life you love while living on a budget.
3 Habits of Frugal People You May Not Know
To help you get started down your frugal path, there are some everyday habits of frugal people that you can learn so you don’t even realize you are saving. In fact, there are certain things thrifty people do day in and day out that you can adopt into your life. Here are just a few of them.
Frugal people have a plan and set goals
Your plan can be written on a piece of paper or electronically stored in a sophisticated spreadsheet, but frugal individuals know and stay within their budgets and have goals to achieve their dreams. In addition to long-term goals, they also have everyday goals that help them prioritize their wants and needs.
While it may be hard at the time to hold off on an indulgence they’ve had their eye on, frugal people know how important it is to stick to the budget and save before spending. When an unexpected household expense or emergency pops up, they are prepared and have an emergency fund that can help them get by.
Frugal people reuse, repurpose, and recycle
Whether it’s paper, pickle jars, or dinner leftovers, you won’t find many things being wasted in a thrifty home.
Now of course I have my ream of bright new paper for when I need it, but I also have a stack of scrap paper. It’s great for when the kids are looking for paper to draw on or if I just need to jot something down for a project.
With a little TLC jars from pickles, sauces, and jelly can easily be transformed into great storage solutions. Just remove the label, spray paint the lid, and you have the perfect place to store anything – nails in the garage, art supplies in the playroom, or cotton balls and q-tips in the bathroom.
Obviously you know what to do with dinner leftovers…eat them instead of throwing them in the trash! Moving them to the front of the fridge will help you remember that they are there or planning them into another meal will help if you need a leftover makeover. Leftover chicken can be used for pizza, salads, or sandwiches or taco meat can be used for some yummy nachos grande.
Frugal people don’t worry about keeping up with the Joneses
They aren’t worried about whose house is bigger, whose car is newer, or who has a fancy designer purse. They are happy with what they have and take pride in the bargains they find and money they are saving.
Having a happy frugal life is about balance. While all of the habits above may not fit your family, adopting even one of them is a great way to start saving more money and begin working toward your financial goals.
